A ToolShare US listing may require a security deposit. For the current payment flow, the security deposit is generally handled as a separate card pre-authorization rather than as part of the normal rental charge.

Authorization hold

The renter authorizes the payment provider to place a hold up to the displayed deposit amount. An authorization hold is not the same as a completed charge. The deposit is not owner revenue and is not automatically transferred to the owner.

Normal return

After the recorded return is completed, ToolShare US provides a 24-hour deposit review window. If no timely deposit-related dispute is opened, the platform's deposit-release process may release the authorization. The renter is not charged the deposit merely because a rental was completed.

Dispute hold

A dispute opened within the applicable review window may suspend automatic release while ToolShare US reviews the evidence. The owner cannot directly capture the deposit.

Financial resolution

ToolShare US may reject a claim and release the full authorization, approve part of a claim and capture only the approved amount while releasing the remainder, or approve an amount up to the available authorized deposit. Approved claim proceeds are handled separately from normal rental payouts.

Evidence

ToolShare US may consider listing photos, pickup and return condition records, timestamps, messages, receipts, repair estimates, replacement information and other reasonably relevant documentation. Ordinary wear should not be treated as chargeable damage.

Deposit is not a liability cap

The renter's contractual responsibility for proven loss is not automatically limited to the deposit amount. If an authorization is unavailable, expired or insufficient, an approved remaining balance may still be owed and may be collected through another permitted payment process.
